What Is it About?

Logline

Sometimes gossiping is beneficial and saves lives!

Concept

Some deceased are still alive at their funeral,. They're saved, but the doctor and the undertaker are at a loss.

One day, two elderly ladies gossip at the wake. The "deceased" gets so irate that he jerks up, giving the ladies a scare, and the undertaker an idea on how to solve the problem.

Synopsis (spoiler!)

At the memorial service of Joseph Coltry, a knocking is heard. The vicar is annoyed and asks her curate to check the door, but there is nobody. The knocking continuous and a muffled voice from the casket demands the coffin to be opened. The vicar sends the family home and asks for the doctor. The casket is opened and out comes Joseph, in good health. A miracle. He walks off, leaving the undertaker and the doctor in a state of confusion.

TThe doctor suggests using a Signs of Life Scanner, which seems to work when tested, but is a disappointment later on. The local newspaper wonders "What's Up Doc?" and his wife asks him what he is going to do. The good doctor himself is at a loss at this point.

Later that day, two elderly ladies, Joan and Lois, are gossiping at the wake of Jonas Latterby. Lois claims she broke it off with him, which triggers Jonas to jerk up and state the opposite. Lois screams and faints. This alerts the undertaker, who asks what's going on. Joan explains, and the undertaker calls the doctor.

The doctor finds Jonas in good health and then asks him what it felt like to die. Jonas describes it as walking through a long dark tunnel with flashing lights. Then, the undertaker brightens and says that he has an idea: at each wake Joan, Lois, and some other elderly "informants" will do their best gossiping. This will surely irk those that are not really dead!

This new approach turns out to be full proof. A week later, at the wake of Thomas Safford, Joan's outrageous story about him has no effect. Rather, his walking through the dark tunnel leads him to a bucolic destination, where he is welcomed.

In conclusion, Joan and Lois state the effectiveness of the method, while the undertaker and the doctor thank the assembled ladies for their effort.
